September is Hunger Action Month. Help the one in six Americans struggling with hunger by dropping off canned goods and non-perishable donations to Palmer Chiropractic during business hours, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Palmer Chiropractic is located in Parker’s Square, 11400 Ford Ave., Richmond Hill.

New downtown
Statesboro will be celebrating the new look of its downtown from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Statesboro City Hall
City officials will be unveiling the new downtown logo for Statesboro, along with new lamp post banners and the new streetscape. In addition, Georgia Southern University will offer tours of its new downtown campus, the future home of a retail store carrying GSU items.
Live music will play from two stages on East and West Main streets. An original music video presentation produced by Chris Mitchell will be available for outdoor viewing on the side of Frills & Fancies’ downtown store, and refreshments will be served at a reception at city hall.
Businesses will be open late for shoppers with owners sharing the history of their special part of downtown Statesboro. In addition, downtown restaurants will be offering specials to mark the occasion.

Harvest Day
Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church invites the public to the first Harvest Day Service to be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at the church in Richmond Hill.
The speaker for the occasion will be Minister Terrence C. Riley of Fairmount Baptist Church in Savannah.

Poker run
American Legion Post 164 Pembroke and Legion Riders will sponsor a Poker Run on Saturday, Oct. 16. The run will form at the Post home in Pembroke and terminate at Hart’s Tavern in Lanier. First bike out at 9 a.m., last bike out at 10 a.m.; last bike in at 2 p.m. The route is 100 miles long. Licensed riders only.
The best hand wins $200 and the worst hand $50. Numerous door prizes will be drawn for and a light lunch and one poker hand will be included in the entry fee of $20. Extra hand or rider will be $5. There will be a 50/50 drawing also.

Boston butts
The Bryan Masonic Lodge No. 303 will hold its annual fall Boston butt and dinner sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.
Dinners will be $6 and butts will be $20.

Fundraiser

Calling all runners and walkers. Come support the Mission Project 3 (MP3) of First Baptist Church in their fundraising event for the Romanian Mission Trip at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 23 in J.F. Gregory Park.
This will be a family event with bouncy houses and fun at the park. Childcare will be available for runners and volunteers. Please RSVP, as availability is first come, first served.

Welcome packets
When single soldiers return from deployment, it takes a few days before their belongs are removed from storage. The Military Ministry at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill is teaming up with Consumed (Friday night worship) to provide them with items they will need during this waiting period.
Donations of travel-size shampoo, soap, detergent, hand sanitizer, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, small Bibles/devotionals and more are being accepted. This is a way to say “thank you” for their service.
Items can be dropped off at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill office Monday through Thursday from 8-6 p.m.

Pageant deadline

The deadline for applications for the Evans County Forestry Pageant is Oct. 23, with no exceptions.
The pageant will be at 5 p.m. Nov. 13 at Claxton Middle School.

Clergy Fellowship

The South Bryan Christian Clergy Fellowship meets at 11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Upper Crust Restaurant on Hwy. 17 in Richmond Hill.
Pastors gather for lunch, mutual encouragement and brainstorming on shared community projects. Clergy from all denominations are welcomed.

Family reunion

The descendants of Jim B. Weathers and Nancy Alice Boyett Weathers will hold a family reunion on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Antioch Baptist Church, Daisy, Ga. (old Hwy. 250 South), from 11 a.m. until.
Bring a covered dish and come enjoy great food and fellowship.

Rec basketball
Registration for youth basketball will be this week at Richmond Hill Recreation Association.
Online registration for $60 will be held from Friday, Oct. 1-24, for ages 5-18 as of Dec. 31, 2010. Late registration for $75 will be Oct. 25-31. Evaluations will be Nov. 6-11; practice will be Nov. 16 through Dec. 19; and the season will be Jan. 8 through March. 10, 2011.
